“Deep River”: An Analysis of the Novel by Shusaku Endo
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page exploration of the religious philosophy of author Shusaku Endo as portrayed in this story of the individual pilgrimages of his key characters. On the surface Shusaku Endo's “Deep River” is a story of personal and cultural clash which unfolds among a group of Japanese tourist touring alongside the Ganges River in India. Endo’s purpose is much deeper than depicting a glimpse of the lives of a few randomly chosen characters, however. Endo’s real purpose is to convey his view of religion, a view that is non-accepting of the premise that religions are exclusive of one another. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

“Don’t You Know There is a War On?”
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page review of the book by Avi recounting the experiences and impressions of a fifth grade protagonist (Howie Crispers) during a critical week in March 1943. World War II is raging in Europe and America has pitched herself full fervor into the war effort. From a fifth Grader’s perspective, however, the war has many personal implications as well. Not only must he juggle his failing math grades, a principal whom he believes to be a Nazi spy, and the emotional turmoil surrounding the death of his best friend’s father and the eventual loss of that friend when he moves away, Howie Crispers must learn to deal with his obsession with one of his teachers. [ send me this paper ]
A 15 page overview of Boris Pasternak’s “Dr. Zhivago”, a novel first published in Italy in 1957. The novel is commonly perceived as a political novel. Even more important than the political overtones of the novel, however, is the human drama which it reveals. In “Dr. Zhivago” Pasternak manages to incorporate many critical aspects of culture, of conflict, and of the overriding importance of the individual and human interrelationships. It is a story of friendship, of interpersonal relationships and a story of destiny. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
