Thomas Friedman’s “From Beirut to Jerusalem”
[ send me this paper ]
This 10 page report discusses the 1989 book by foreign correspondent Thomas Friedman. Friedman, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner (1983 and 1988 for Middle East coverage) also won the National Book Award for “From Beirut to Jerusalem.” The most compelling portions of Friedman’s book are about the torment and the turbulence that is Lebanon. As he presents his readers with the relationships he established during his time in both Israel and Lebanon, he calls on one of the fundamentals of social science in terms of that relationship building. A significant portion of this report looks at the book from the perspective of social science. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

They lived in peace for centuries, eventually establishing a Jewish society and culture that has been estimated to range in numbers between 5,000 to 9,000 people. In the 1930s and 1940’s, there were an estimated 30,000-40,000 Jews in China. Most of whom left after the end of World War II or during the Cultural Revolution. Bibliography lists 7 sources. This 5 page paper discusses 1,2 Kings. This was originally one work but it was divided in the mid-1400s into the two. General information is provided about Kings, such as the author, the dates and the years covered and the message of the Books. The focus of these two Books is the spiritual relationship of the monarchs with God. When the king followed the rules as established in the Mosaic and other covenants, the nation was blessed; when he did not, the nation was punished. Kings begins in the last days of the reign of David and ends with the destruction of the great Temple in Jerusalem. This is a tragic and a sad story but it is also one of hope and encouragement.
