Security Affairs in Eastern Europe and Moscow after 1945
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the highly effective and equally repressive security measures and forces of both the Soviet Union and the nations of eastern Europe after World War II and until the end of the Cold War. Sexual Violence During Times of War: Crime Against Humanity or War Crime?
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page discussion of the nature of acts of sexual violence committed during times of war. Uses the examples recently unfolding in the Yugoslav region. Notes that the 2001 convictions of three Bosnian Serbs for their repeated rape and mistreatment of numerous civilian Muslim women they held captive is precedential in nature. It is the first incidence of an international court of justice addressing a crime of sexual violence as a crime against humanity. that in reality these crimes justify an even more rigid judicial process and retribution. It can be contended in fact, given the structural, cultural, and institutional mechanisms which have resulted in these crimes, that these crimes of sexual violence should be prosecuted under the title of war crimes. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Sexuality in Social History
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper discussing the use of the study of sex and scandal in defining a society or culture of the past. The study of attitudes toward sex and scandal in any society can help inform social definition, but it also needs to be undertaken with some caveats. Using the study of sex and scandal to help further define any society of the past is a valid pursuit. However, those choosing that route must make allowances for the social and linguistic customs and patterns in which events not only occurred, but also in which they were recorded. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Similarities Between World War I and World War II

Sir Francis Drake, Innovative Thinker
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page paper discussing the explorer and privateer's ability to look at things from perspectives that others had not yet seen. The business buzzword of the 1990s and into the new century has been that of innovation, but Sir Francis gives us insight into the usefulness of innovation during the late 16th century. Preceding the pirates, Sir Francis was one of the world's first privateers, and certainly one of the first to use modern methods of warfare. Whenever possible, he allowed his enemy to complete the bulk of the difficult work for him. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Sixteenth Century Wedding Festivities: The Subject of Considerable Historical and Contemporary Criticism
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page description of the festivities which often accompanies sixteenth century English weddings. The author notes that these weddings essentially consisted of two components, the secular and the non-secular. This paper observes that the most criticized component, the excesses associated with the celebrations, is often blamed on the lower classes of society when in reality even the most prestigious members of society occasionally succumbed to the temptation of excess presented by the wedding festivities. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
