Mill & Comte/ On Morality
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page research paper that contrasts and compares the moral philosophy of Auguste Comte and John Stuart Mill. The writer argues that the nineteenth century was a turbulent time that witnessed how advances in scientific knowledge and the Industrial Revolution literally transformed the world. To many philosophers, such as Auguste Comte and John Stuart Mill, it appeared that new times called for new ways of thinking and that there was an urgent need for new institutions among human societies that would be better suited to the changing environment that they witnessed all around them. Citing their long correspondence, the writer further argues that their philosophies were very similar while noting on what areas they disagreed. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

The paper discusses the philosophies of Kant, Mill, Aristotle and Rawls, relating them to the growing problems of such conflict of interest enabled in large part by the consolidation trend fueling mergers and acquisitions. The second and smaller section of the paper provides concrete example of the problems of subjectivity in reporting. It provides several examples of broadcast 'cheerleading' styles dating from as far back as the 1960s and examines the implications of the 1999 purchase by the corporate parent of the Dallas Morning News of a minor stake in Dallas' struggling rofessional basketball team, the Mavericks. Bibliography lists 17 sources.

Nietzsche And Plato
[ send me this paper ]
The tenets of Christianity have been built on a foundation derived, to a large part, from the philosophies of Plato. Nietzsche was vehemently opposed to Christianity, and by extension, to Plato's most basic of ideas. He thought that the emphasis on the transcendental nature depreciated the value of corporeal life and the innate potentials of man. Plato felt that the striving for perfection in man was directly attributable to the a priori nature of both ideas and moral 'good'. This 4 page paper sets the two philosophers and their philosophies in debate. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
