Television News: A Reflection of and Influence on Popular Culture
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 3 page paper discussing how television news reflects as well as influences popular culture. Television news influences as well as reflects various aspects of popular culture in today’s society. Television news and the violent components have been shown to have adverse and frightening effects on children. In one sense however, popular culture has accepted violence within the world and expects the news to properly report world, national and local events. While violence within society may have had an impact on the nature of television news in content, the structure of television news programs may also cater to reflect the structure of modern society. Many people within today’s society live a fast-paced lifestyle and wish their television news reports to reflect this resulting in several new news formats which provide highlighted snippets of information given within a relatively short space of time and overall has failed to give the in-depth coverage much of the content may warrant. Television's Transformation of "Tiny"
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing a 1980 article mourning the decline of intellectual discourse in favor of the smallness of television. The article was written by one of the same generation that progressively removed from public schools all pursuits during the 1960s and 70s that could contribute to the development of critical thinking abilities. The paper argues that people have greater ability to and interest in forming their own opinions than media have given them credit for being able to do, citing our rejection of networks for fact-only CNN during the Persian Gulf War in support. Television is indeed small; it would be much smaller without demands of viewers that it be otherwise. Bibliography lists 1 source.
