Media, Nationalism And National Identity Versus New Media (Internet) Theory
[ send me this paper ]
12 pages in length. The close relationship between media and national identity is a dichotomy of tremendous proportions: On the one hand, it is a union fraught with conflicting messages and images by which to inform the people, yet on the other hand, it reflects one of the most inescapably important relationships ever forged between two otherwise incompatible entities. To illustrate how this incongruous merger has endured – and even flourished – throughout claims of nation state weakening due in part to the pervasiveness of globalization, one need only look as far as the Internet to see how much of a major role media now play in representing, creating and restructuring national identity, nationalism and national boundaries. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

Media: Incites Violence
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. To implicate mass media as being an influential force over the prevalence of violence in today's society is to recognize the intrinsic impact such avenues as television, radio and magazines have upon an impressionable global community. Indeed, various forms of media regularly infuse the not-so-subtle factors associated with gratuitous violence to such an extent that viewers are no longer shocked by the bludgeoning death or decapitation of a fellow human being. Instead, this desensitization has served to encourage the public to engage in that much more violent aspects of contemporary media, not the least of which includes the overt violent depiction found in video games. In a society where violence takes center stage where media sources are concerned, one might readily surmise how children stand to be the greatest casualty. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Media: Portrayal Of White Suspects Compared To Black Suspects In The Criminal Justice System
[ send me this paper ]
11 pages in length. One of the most damning aspects of racial stereotypes is the manner in which all members of a particular race become grouped together for the actions of a relative few. By casting the negative light of racial profiling toward being Black, Mexican, Asian or any number of other ethnic races, it shows a great deal of ignorance and disrespect for that individual; just because someone is a member of a certain race does not mean that they represent any of the negative connotations associated with that race. African-Americans and Latinos are victims of this sort of prejudice on a regular basis by being regularly interrogated by law enforcement. It can readily be argued that the police are decidedly more prejudice toward some races than they are toward others; for this reason, certain races are badgered with no other justification than because of their color. However, law enforcement officials are not the only ones who misconstrue reality and perpetuate racial discord, inasmuch as the media have long incited controversy by participating in racial profiling. Bibliography lists 11 sources.
