Acme Paperclips -- Offices in the United States and Uganda
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page report discusses the fact that working conditions for people in the United States and people in Africa are literally and figuratively a world apart. Not only are the workers of Uganda most familiar with agricultural work and agricultural related production (the countries leading export is coffee), they are generally unaware that their government has or should have any obligation in terms of providing them with a safe working environment. Using the example of the fictious “Acme Paperclip” company, issues of worker safety and protection are discussed. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Practicing Corporate Social Responsibility
[ send me this paper ]
A 13 page paper discussing business issues surrounding socially responsible practices. Many business organizations have chosen to take active roles in the communities in which they operate or to support their employees in nontraditional ways. The issue of corporate social responsibility (CSR) has received greater attention with the advent of intense globalization of business, but the concept itself is not a new one. The paper lists advantages and many fewer disadvantages, concluding that adopting CSR policies is good for business. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Advertising Ethics
[ send me this paper ]
Advertising has become such an integral component of modern life that many people no longer bother to consider either the content or the meaning behind the call for consumerism. This 8 page paper explores the philosophies of Immanuel Kant and John Stuart Mill and argues that, in advertising, the motive for existence is profit and persuasion. These elements are often at odds with the concept of ethical behavior as it is defined by the philosophers Kant and Mill. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Age Discrimination in the Work Place
[ send me this paper ]
9 pages. Age discrimination is becoming more and more prevalent in the workplace whether we want to believe that or not. Many companies now have been known to 'lay off' their older employees, only to later re-hire younger employees to fill the same positions. This not only saves money in salaries (the younger employees receive less in wages than the long-term employee does) but it saves the company from having to pay out retirement packages as well. Companies of course dispute that this is done, but the fact is we see it happening every day. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

AIDS in the Workplace: Policy and Ethics
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page paper addressing organizational AIDS policy. AIDS continues to increase in the numbers of people infected with the HIV virus, and its action is so closely aligned with that of cancer that the two often are combined in research efforts. It still is warily viewed by many, however. Organizational policy is more closely guided by law, for AIDS comes under the protection of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Even so, formulation and implementation of policy still gives rise to questions of ethics. The paper includes a view of liberal philosophy as promoted by Rawls and Mill, concluding that policy should be weighted to favor the afflicted individual but also considering the needs of the organization within the law. Bibliography lists 11 sources.
